In a world where representation matters more than ever, LGBTQ Syracuse Social Media has taken a powerful step forward by launching a YouTube channel dedicated to Storytime with Miss Kim and Miss Jackie. Their mission? To bring stories of kindness, courage, and inclusion to children—especially those in marginalized communities who rarely see themselves reflected in mainstream media.

Storytime with Purpose

Miss Kim and Miss Jackie don’t just read books. They read meaningful stories—ones that highlight anti-bullying, empathy, and most importantly, LGBTQ representation. In each video, they foster a sense of belonging and pride for kids and families who may not always feel seen.

For LGBTQ youth and children from diverse backgrounds, seeing someone like themselves in a book—or even reading the book—can be life-changing. It validates their experiences and reminds them that they’re not alone. That they matter.

Inspired by a Neighborhood Icon

Miss Kim often shares that her inspiration comes from none other than Mister Rogers himself. Just as Fred Rogers helped children understand that their feelings were real and important, Miss Kim brings that same gentle strength to every story she reads.

“Mister Rogers taught me that the people in your neighborhood matter,” she says. “This is my way of showing kids that LGBTQ people are part of the neighborhood too. We belong here—and we care about you.”

Filling the Representation Gap

It’s no secret that LGBTQ stories—especially those geared toward children—are often missing from libraries and classrooms. By creating a digital space for inclusive storytelling, LGBTQ Syracuse is bridging that gap. Their videos are accessible to anyone with an internet connection, making it easier for families, educators, and allies to share stories that reflect a broader, more compassionate world.

A Safe Space for All Kids

The channel isn’t just for LGBTQ families—it’s for everyone. Teaching kids about diversity, respect, and kindness benefits all of us. When children grow up hearing stories from different perspectives, they’re more likely to become empathetic, open-minded adults.

And in today’s world, we need more of that.
